How to run a team spare block with it

  1. Split the team across lanes.
  2. Give each athlete 5 to 10 attempts per leave. Write makes over attempts in the box, for example 7 / 10.
  3. Shoot single pins first, then the multi-pin leaves.
  4. Add across for each athlete's total and conversion percentage, and keep the sheets to compare week to week.

What to look for: single pins should be close to 100 percent. A low number on the 10 or the 7 usually means the spare system or spare ball needs work, not more effort. More in how to pick up more spares.

Or track spare practice on your phone

LaneLogic's spare drill mode logs every attempt by leave and builds a heat map of each bowler's conversion by pin. Free on iPhone and Android.

Frequently asked questions

How many attempts per leave should athletes shoot?

Five to ten per leave per session is a good start. More attempts make the percentage more trustworthy.

Which spares should a team practice most?

Single pins first, especially the 10 and the 7. They are the most common leaves and should be made almost every time.
